Eva Mendes reflects on film The Place Beyond The Pines where she met partner Ryan Gosling

Eva Mendes reminisces about the movie where she met her longtime partner Ryan Gosling over a decade ago – The Place Beyond the Pines.

The 49-year-old actress began dating 42-year-old Gosling in September 2011, shortly after they both finished filming on The Place Beyond the Pines.

They have been together ever since, sharing eight-year-old daughter Esmeralda and six-year-old daughter Amada.

Mendes — who shared some sun-soaked snaps from an outing earlier this week — took to Instagram on Tuesday and shared some behind-the-scenes snaps from the film.

The post comes just days after the movie celebrated its 10th anniversary, which was released in limited numbers in theaters on March 29, 2013, to which her friend Sandra Condito reminded her.

“Luke & Romina,” Mendes began, with two black heart emojis referencing her and Gosling’s characters in the movie.

“Mi socia (my partner) @scondita just sent me this and told me it’s been 10 years since this movie came out. It feels like a lifetime ago,” Mendes said.

Mendes shared snaps of the co-stars on set along with their on-screen baby from the film.

The film follows Luke, a motorcycle stunt driver who takes to robbing banks to take care of his girlfriend Romina and their newborn child.

The Place Beyond the Pines also starred Bradley Cooper, Mahershala Ali, Ben Mendelsohn, Rose Byrne, Bruce Greenwood, Ray Liotta and Dane DeHaan.

The film was not a big hit at the box office, although it grossed $47 million worldwide on a budget of $15 million.

It also ended up being the penultimate film Mendes would star in to date, only appearing in Gosling’s directorial debut, Lost River, starring Christina Hendricks and Saoirse Ronan, which was released in 2014.

While briefly returning to acting, voicing a yoga instructor in the animated children’s series Bluey in 2021, Mendes had revealed in the past that she left to take care of her children.

However, she also added in a November podcast that she also stepped away because she was offered “s****y roles.”

When asked if she would return to acting, Mendes said on the Australian podcast Fitzy and Wippa“Yeah, well, for a great role.”

“I was just, you know… I took time off to be with the kids because they were so little. Now they are six and our oldest just turned eight,” she added.

“But it’s also because, you know, can I say a bad word? It was some pretty s*****y roles I was offered and I was tired of taking them,” she clarified.

“I was tired of it, you know what, it’s not worth it. You know, if I go away for a few months and you know, it better be something damn good,” she added.

Mendes was also asked if there’s ever a particular moment in a script — or even a page — that solidifies her decision to pass on a project.

“Sometimes there is a page. When the character is introduced, and you know what I mean?’ she said.

“Sometimes it’s a page, but most of the time I try to give it in full, but sometimes halfway you think, I’ll never do this, I’ll never do this,” she added.

She also cleared up talk that she has “retired” from acting in a recent October Instagram comment.

“I never stopped acting. I wanted to be home with my babies and thankfully my other business ventures let me do that more than act,” Mendes said.
