“The industry is definitely wary of an actor coming in [to direct],” the Young And The Restless vet explained.

During the interview, she also shared that she tried to combine her passion for filmmaking with advocating for Latino representation in the entertainment industry.

“It wasn’t as big of a conversation as it is now,” she said of the lack of roles for Latinas growing up. ‘The word ‘diversity’ is used so often these days.

“At the time, there really weren’t any efforts or programs or initiatives,” she added. “I had Roselyn Sanchez. When I came to Hollywood, she was starring with The Rock; she starred in Rush Hour. I was like, “Oh, I see someone who looks like me.”

Despite everything she overcame and landed major roles in popular sitcoms, the film and television producer also spoke of disappointing her family.

“I was the huge disappointment in my family,” she revealed that she felt guilty for not continuing her education. They are all educators.
