Eurovision fans were outraged during Saturday night’s highly anticipated final when commentator Mel Giedroyc spoke of Hannah Waddingham speaking French.

Host Hannah, 48, showed off her French-speaking talents on the show this week and once again showed off her language skills at the 2023 Eurovision final.

However, viewers were not impressed when commentator Mel, 54, decided to speak about Hannah’s words in English on the BBC’s live broadcast.

While the Ted Lasso star was addressing French-speaking viewers, Mel decided to read out the voting lines for British viewers in English instead.

However, her actions infuriated viewers in the UK, furious that they wanted to listen to Hannah’s francophone skills and saying they would ‘never forgive’ her blunder.

One person took to Twitter and raged: “Mel Giedroyc talking about Hannah Waddingham while speaking French is a faux pas I can’t forgive.”

Another wrote: “Still furious that Mel Giedroyc felt the need to speak about what would have been the hottest TV moment of 2023.”

While a third said, “No Mel Giedroyc, WE WANT to hear Hannah Waddingham speak French ffs.”

A fourth tweeted, “Okay; I have a LOT of time for English TV presenters who speak French, but of course Mel Giedroyc talked to Hannah Waddingham all over there.”

And a fifth said: ‘Mel Giedroyc, I love you, but I want you to shut up and let me listen to Hannah Waddingham speaking French #Eurovision.’
