New UEFA rules for Euro 2024
UEFA has tightened the yellow and red card rules for this summer’s European Championship in Germany, stating that any player surrounding the referee will receive a yellow card.
The captains of each team are now only allowed to approach the referees and discuss the decision.
Teams that have appointed their goalkeeper as captain may appoint a field player, who can then approach the match officials instead.
How many games will a player miss if he picks up a yellow card at Euro 2024?
Players who draw two yellow cards before the end of the quarter-final will have to serve a match ban.
With the addition that they will miss another match if they collect four yellow cards before the quarter-final.
This means that if a player picks up two yellow cards during the entire group stage, round of 16 and quarter-finals, he will be suspended for the semi-finals if his team reaches the final stages of the tournament.
However, yellow cards are cleared after the end of the quarter-finals, meaning that no player will have to miss the final due to the accumulation of yellow cards.
The only way they would miss the final would be if they were red carded in the semi-final.
