Euro 2024 scores a huge own goal due to the lack of 4K TV broadcasts

Euro 2024 producers have reportedly announced that the match will not be produced in 4K, which obviously means it cannot be broadcast in 4K on TV. With broadcasting rights shared between the BBC and ITV in the UK and Fox in the US, this is yet another major football event (soccer for US readers) that will not be broadcast in Ultra HD.

It was announced at the 2023 Sky Sport Summit that UEFA had decided not to produce Euro 2024 in UHD – also known as 4K (via FlatpanelsHD). This was in turn confirmed by broadcaster Karl Petermichl, head of distribution at Austria’s public broadcaster ORF, who said on Twitter:
