Cristiano Ronaldo narrowly avoided being kicked by a crazed fan who jumped at him from the stands after Portugal’s 2-0 defeat to Georgia on Wednesday night.

Footage from another supporter shows Ronaldo looking stunned as he trudges off the pitch and stands at the top of the steps as the man flies past him into the tunnel.

The fan jumped with both feet first, although it seems likely he was trying to get close to the Portuguese superstar rather than inflict any damage.

A steward at the match wore an orange vest and escorted Ronaldo down. He reacted quickly and stood in front of the player when he saw the threat.

Ronaldo then extends his hands in front of him and gestures ‘what was that?’

It comes days after the former Man United, Real Madrid and Juventus man was spotted pushing a pitch invader.

Ronaldo was widely praised for taking a selfie with a young boy who ran onto the pitch late in the match during Portugal’s 3-0 win over Turkey.

But several fans entered the field in the closing stages of the match as they tried to get close to Ronaldo.

Earlier in the match, Ronaldo had no time to engage with fans as he pushed away a supporter who had entered the pitch.

After Ronaldo pushed him away, the pitch intruder was attacked by security, who tackled him roughly.

UEFA will launch an investigation into the scenes showing how Ronaldo was approached by six field robbers.

Overzealous fans have always been a problem for the 39-year-old, one of the most famous people in the world.

It has been a frustrating tournament so far for the prolific striker, who is still unable to get going. But Portugal advanced to the last 16 of the tournament despite Wednesday’s disappointing defeat.

They will next face Slovenia on Monday, July 1.
