‘Euphoria’ star Hunter Schafer among protesters arrested during Biden’s appearance on ‘Late Night’
NEW YORK — Actor Hunter Schafer was among dozens of war protesters arrested at NBC headquarters in Manhattan earlier this week during President Joe Biden’s appearance on “Late Night with Seth Myers,” organizers confirmed Wednesday.
The 25-year-old “Euphoria” star was part of a group of more than 100 protesters who stormed the lobby of 30 Rockefeller Plaza on Monday afternoon to call for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas, according to the report. group Jewish Voice for Peace. .
Schafer and other demonstrators wore black shirts that read “Ceasefire Now” and “Not in Our Names” while chanting “Let Gaza Live” and other slogans as Biden’s motorcade entered the area, according to videos and photos of the event.
Schafer, who like many protesters also wore a face mask, is seen at one point on the ground as others hold up a banner behind her that reads “Jews vs. Biden: Stop Weaponizing Genocide.”
Representatives for Schafer did not respond to messages seeking comment on Wednesday. Protest organizers said they and others are expected to appear in court sometime next month.
“We commend her commitment to Palestinian freedom and to a future of justice for all,” Sonya Meyerson-Knox of Jewish Voice for Peace said in an emailed statement.
New York police said Wednesday that 30 people were taken into custody and issued citations for trespassing after the hour-and-a-half demonstration.
Biden, meanwhile, said Monday he was optimistic a ceasefire would be reached in the coming days.
“I hope by the end of the weekend,” he told reporters after taping the late show interview. “My national security advisor tells me we are close. I hope we have a ceasefire next Monday.”
