‘We always keep things open-ended’: Eugene Levy reveals he’d ‘love’ to make a Schitt’s Creek movie, but says it has to be as good as the series
Eugene Levy has revealed that he would jump at the chance to make a Schitt’s Creek movie, but nothing is on the cards yet.
The 76-year-old actor co-created the cult comedy series with his son Dan Levy, which set an Emmy record during its final season for most wins for a comedy series in a year with seven awards. .
Speaking with Dermot O’Leary and Josie Gibon on This Morning, Eugene said the cast would love the chance to reunite.
He said: “It was a great run and the way it worked out, where we hit our pace, our peak right at the end of the series on a record-breaking Emmy night, I would have preferred that to happen if the show had had a big success in their first season or two, and then how do they continue to outdo themselves as the years go by?
Speaking about the prospect of a film adaptation, he added: “You may wait for it, you may not make it.”

The comedian, who played family patriarch Johnny Rose, said any idea for a movie would have to be as good as the one the show left behind in the sixth and final season.
He said: “We’ve said that we’re always keeping things open, and Daniel himself has said that it really depends on the idea of what it is, because whatever it is, it has to rise from the point where we left it, to the point where we are going to pick up.
It has to keep going up. When we get that idea, we would definitely love to do it again? Yes. Would we love to get back together with the cast? Absolutely.’
He added: ‘It was simply the best experience of my life. But there’s nothing in the works right now, but it’s absolutely something we’d love to do.
Eugene’s son Dan, who played Johnny’s son David, previously told People that he hopes there will be a movie one day.
He said: ‘Some people have been asking what [about a movie]. If there’s an idea that comes to mind that is worthy of these wonderful people, it has to be really good at this point.
‘Let’s cross our fingers that a very good idea comes to us soon. I would love to work with these beautiful people again. This has been the most incredible experience.’
The father-son duo accepted the award for Outstanding Comedy Series at the Emmys in 2020.
