Australians have scored the deal of a lifetime thanks to an apparent problem with a major airline and booking website – securing return flights to Europe for less than $300 over the summer.

Return flights from Sydney to Berlin in July normally cost around $3,000, but on Thursday evening, social media was fired after someone found a return flight costing several hundred dollars.

The person discovered a flight with Etihad via SkyScanner for peak summer 2023 – with the advertised flight plummeting in price when booked through the airline rather than a third party.

Despite listing prices between $2,000 and $3,000, after payment, the cost of the return trip dropped to about $300.

The message was widely circulated on Facebook Messenger, with dozens of people jumping on the glitch before the company went ahead and removed Etihad flights from SkyScanner.

Flights from Sydney to Berlin Brandenburg for the extraordinarily low price of $300 round-trip were available throughout the warm months of next year – representing a stunning coup for Aussie travelers.

Dozens of people reported taking the deal before it was removed from SkyScanner’s website and found rates from May through August.

“I couldn’t believe it, a buddy shared the message with me and a few minutes later I had it booked,” a man who did not want to be named told Daily Mail Australia.

“I had a European summer wedding anyway, so this is a crazy deal for me.”

Another traveler, who declined to be named, said they looked at flights over $3,000 at the same time.

“Nowadays you can barely get back to Melbourne for $300,” the woman told the Daily Mail Australia.

‘Flying to Europe with a top airline in the middle of the summer is madness. I can not believe it.’

The outage was online for about an hour on Thursday evening before all Etihad flights were removed from SkyScanner’s website.

Etihad Airlines has been contacted for comment.
