Estee Lauder’s ‘favorite home’ goes on sale: Five-bedroom French villa listed for $9.4mn

The ‘favorite home’ of American businesswoman Estée Lauder has gone up for sale in the south of France for a whopping $ 9.4 million.

The Belle Époque-style villa in Cannes, bought in 1963, was described by the co-founder of her cosmetics company as her favorite vacation home.

She is also said to have created Beautiful, one of her most popular fragrances, while staying there.

The five-bedroom home is located in the fashionable La Californie neighborhood, known as ‘billionaires’ hill’ and once home to artist Picasso.

It has a large swimming pool, several outdoor seating and dining areas and spectacular views over the Cote D’Azur.

The new owner of the house can enjoy a picturesque view of the sunny French Riviera from a shaded terrace, or take a dip in the heated swimming pool.

For more intimate summer days, the flat terrace also features a top quality BBQ, perfect for entertaining a group of friends, overlooking the sea.

And when Cannes hits its annual low of 46F (7.5C) in January, they can migrate to the fully equipped kitchen and dining room.

And air conditioning is on standby for when the city hits its average annual highs of 80.6F (27C).

The home also has two living rooms – if needed.

If guests want to stay longer, there’s plenty of room for everyone, with four guest suites and a separate guest toilet dotted around the building.

Of course, the house also has a master suite complete with dressing room.

And if Monday feels too close, digital nomads have just a short drive to the home office.

After work, the owner of the house can enjoy several other terraces leading from the house to the garden.

They can also settle down on one of the sunbeds on the lawn by the pool and enjoy the border of beautiful white flowers.

The house is located just a short distance inland from Pointe Croisette, home to the beautiful Bijou Plage beach, as well as a number of yacht clubs and luxury apartments.

When it was leased earlier this year, rates surpassed $6,500 per night.

Estee Lauder passed away in 2004 at the age of 95 after an illustrious career at the top of the cosmetics industry.

She started her beauty empire in the 1940s with a small range of skin care products.

After years of selling products on her own, she founded the eponymous company in 1946 with her husband, Joseph Lauter (later Lauder), a businessman in the clothing industry.

Lauder went on to become one of the richest self-made women in history, enjoying wide social circles worldwide.

She stepped down as president of her company in 1973, after which her eldest son took over the day-to-day management.

Lauder’s company went public in 1995 and was valued at about $2 billion at the time.

She died in 2004 in New York City, the business still run by the family.
