ESPN side reporter and former Trinidad and Tobago goalkeeper Shaka Hislop collapsed during an on-air report for the friendly between Milan and Real Madrid in Pasadena, California.

The 54-year-old began to falter before falling headfirst into his broadcast partner, Dan Thomas, causing immediate panic on the sidelines.

The weather in Pasadena on Sunday was in the mid-80s, according to Accuweather.com.

ESPN quickly broke through after Hislop’s collapse. The network later updated viewers to say Hislop was “conscious” and being examined by medics on the field.

“We’ve spoken to his wife and it looks good,” a visibly relieved Thomas said at half-time. “Shaka, it looks like he’ll be fine.”

There was an immediate wave of concern on social media after Hislop’s collapse.

Sending thoughts and prayers to Shaka Hislop after he fainted live during the ESPN broadcast of AC Milan vs. Real Madrid,” read a tweet. “Glad to hear that he is now conscious and that the medics are taking care of him.”

“Positive thoughts go out to Shaka Hislop,” read another. “I hope it’s just the heat.”

Born in England, Hislop played for the Trinidad and Tobago national team, as well as several English and American club teams.

He started his career with Reading in 1992 before moving to Newcastle, West Ham, Portsmouth and later FC Dallas in the MLS.

In addition to coaching goalkeepers at Quinnipiac, a college in Connecticut, he has also worked as a football analyst for The Guardian and as a commentator for ESPN FC.

Hislop is the cousin of American sprinter Natasha Hastings, who won Olympic gold in the 4X400 relay at the 2008 Beijing and 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.
