An ESPN executive has passed away at the age of 42 following a “medical emergency” during an NCAA regional tournament in North Carolina on Saturday, the network announced.
Kyle Brown worked for the broadcast giants for 16 years, and ESPN announced the news in a statement that said, “Kyle was a deeply admired member of our production team.”
It continued that he was also “highly skilled, having won two Sports Emmy Awards while working in a variety of sports from baseball and basketball to Monday Night Football and college football.”
The super-regional game between No. 16 Alabama and No. 1 Wake Forest was postponed for two hours Saturday due to a “non-game-related medical event,” according to USA Today.
It was revealed hours after Brown had died, though the cause of death is still unknown.

Before starting his professional career with ESPN, Brown was an accomplished sports star in his own right, managing the Ohio State baseball team.
ESPN’s NCAA baseball coverage on Sunday included a tribute to the 16-year-old employee, as host Kris Budden announced the news of his death.
“Kyle cherished the opportunity for a career in sports,” Budden said. “His ESPN family would like to extend our deepest condolences and full support to Kyle’s loved ones… Kyle will be greatly missed.”
