ESPN analyst Bart Scott has been criticized on social media for joking about Dallas Cowboys star Trevon Diggs tearing his Achilles tendon and ending his season.

Scott discussed the Diggs news with Stephen A. Smith and Ryan Clark on Friday’s First Take, specifically how it could hurt the Cowboy’s Super Bowl hopes after two impressive wins to start the season.

“This is a big, big blow to Dallas and just like Stephen. A always says, “Just wait, something bad always happens,” Scott said, referring to Smith’s cynicism about the Cowboys in previous seasons.

But Scott’s attempt to cleverly end his comments backfired immediately, with both Smith and Clark shooting him.

“No, don’t start that, don’t start that,” Clark shouted, before Stephen A. intervened.

“First of all, let me tell you, in all seriousness, I wouldn’t do that right now,” Smith said in a somber tone.

“This is a season-ending injury, I’m certainly not going to joke about that with Trevon Diggs, my brother.”

Diggs was injured during practice with the Cowboys on Thursday, a day after his 25th birthday, and the injury is a huge blow for Dallas.

Scott’s comment was picked up by fans watching Friday’s First Take and many took to social media to criticize him. But the angriest reaction came from Micah Parsons, a teammate of Diggs on the Cowboys.

‘Wtf?? He hates a** old head!! Lame asf!! This is why I really don’t like talking to guys in the media!!” said Parsons.

‘As a former player you are a lame asf bro! Just facts that make fun of a man trying to feed his family and build a legacy! ESPN needs to stop airing cornballs on TV!!”

Meanwhile, a fan writes on X: ‘Huge respect to Stephen A and Ryan Clark for shutting this down straight away. Really insensitive and gross of Bart Scott,” one fan wrote.

Another said, “With all the cuts ESPN has made, it’s beyond me how Bart Scott made the team.”

Another viewer wrote: ‘Bart Scott making a joke about Trevon Diggs’ injury is insane stuff. Most of the guys on the major networks are so bad, it’s unreal.”

Diggs even reportedly missed his own birthday party due to the injury — he was supposed to go watch Beyonce on Thursday night at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, where she was on tour.

The Cowboys are in Arizona to play the Cardinals on Sunday night after opening the season with two impressive wins over both New York teams.

Scott himself played eleven seasons in the NFL as a linebacker. He played with the Baltimore Ravens from 2002 to 2008 and spent three years with the New York Jets from 2009.

He retired in 2013 and has been working as an analyst ever since.
