Errol Spence Jr has undergone cataract surgery after claiming he went into his superfight against Terence Crawford last year with an eye injury.

Spence was outclassed by Crawford when they finally locked horns in July, with the latter dropping his bitter rival three times before finally forcing the stoppage in round nine.

After years of demand, a matchup billed as one of the greatest in the sport’s modern history proved to be a surprisingly one-sided affair as Crawford set out to become the first undisputed two-weight champion of the four-belt era.

But just over five months later, Spence claims his brutal defeat was the result of both an eye injury that recently required surgery, and the fact that he was ‘not exactly living like a boxer’ in the lead-up to it.

On Monday, the former welterweight champion shared a video of himself being wheeled out of surgery wearing an eye patch to his Instagram Story, before adding: “I had to have cataract surgery. .’

But as well as revealing his eye injury, the beaten champion claims he ‘wasn’t living like a boxer’ before his one-sided defeat.

“Why do you think I got hit with so many jabs n hooks,” he continued before adding of Crawford’s brilliance that night, “Still a great performance from bro.”

Spence was quickly called out on

The dejected fighter replied: “You may be right, but one trick is the Olympics, kids in private school, mom and dad retired years ago, passport full of stamps and I don’t have to pick up a glove anymore if I don’t want to ‘.

More than four years after a near-fatal car accident, Spence is urged to protect his assets and quit the sport following his beating by Crawford. However, immediately after the first defeat of his professional career, he instead activated his contractual right to a rematch.

“That said, you can kill the retired stuff,” he continued on social media, “yeah I’ve had my stroke that was over due to (due to the fact that) I didn’t exactly live like a boxer for the most part lol” .

Spence added: ‘They asked me if I wanted to do it, the press showed up, no glasses answered all the questions, head up, gave the bra a hug for the a** s**t good s**t & dipped..’

Crawford soon caught wind of his rival’s claims and responded by simply writing, “No comment.”

Spence has been forced to undergo eye surgery in the past, after withdrawing from his scheduled fight with Manny Pacquiao in August 2021 to undergo surgery on his left retina.

The Long Island-born star later revealed that he probably would have been blindsided if he had continued to fight Pacquiao.

It remains to be seen when Spence’s shot at redemption against Crawford will take place, as well as what weight class it will take place in after the former claimed to be drained at 147 pounds and looking to move up to 154 pounds.
