Erling Haaland has revealed one of the secrets of his success: his father Alfie’s lasagna.

Haaland’s third consecutive hat-trick at home helped Manchester City beat neighbors United 6-3 at the Etihad on Sunday, taking his tally for the season to 17 goals in 11 games.

Former City player Alfie was at the game to celebrate his son’s latest exploits, and the 22-year-old striker believes a secret ingredient in the lasagna is helping him gobble up the goals.

“I’ve had it for every home game now and it’s working out pretty well so there must be something special he adds to it,” Haaland said.

‘I help very little. I usually lay on the couch watching him. That is how it works.’

Haaland says he felt the hunger among City’s players to destroy Manchester United after providing two assists to help Phil Foden celebrate his own hat-trick.

“Before the game and during training on Friday, I felt a hungry club wanting to attack this game and that’s exactly what we did,” added the Norwegian, who described the chemistry between Pep Guardiola’s squad as “insane”.

“We were with the national teams (last week) playing different matches. We came back for training on Thursday and I didn’t do much but it was Friday when I felt it.

“I came to the training ground and I felt that something special was going to happen.

‘It’s hard to explain, you have to experience the feeling and the energy around you. It was special and we showed that.’
