Marco Reus says Borussia Dortmund will have to stop former team-mate Erling Haaland ‘as much as possible’ if they are to achieve a positive result against Manchester City.
Haaland, who has scored 86 goals in 89 Bundesliga appearances, will face his former team-mates for the first time since his £51million move in the summer.
Ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash, the 22-year-old has already scored 12 goals in just eight appearances for the reigning Premier League champions.

Haaland has been in electric form since joining Man City, scoring 12 goals in eight appearances
Dortmund captain Reus hopes Haaland won’t have his ‘best day’ and acknowledges it won’t be easy to stop the Norwegian striker.
As reported by the GuardianReus said: ‘It’s just sensational how he is currently performing in Manchester. It helps that his teammates aren’t the worst.
‘How do you stop him? Good question. It’s not easy to stop him. One of the keys is not to be late with your decisions, to anticipate what is going to happen.
“You have to stay close to him to stop him as much as possible for 90 minutes. Then you just have to hope he’s not having his best day.’
Haaland was one of the most sought after strikers in world football after his impressive goal during his two-and-a-half-year stint with Dortmund.
Marco Reus is aware Dortmund must retire Haaland to increase their chances of a positive result from Wednesday night’s Champions League group stage clash
Manchester City won the race to sign Haaland and the striker has been in relentless form since arriving at the Etihad.
He has already scored ten goals in the Premier League, while also scoring a brace in their 3-0 win against Sevilla on the opening day of this year’s Champions League group stage.
Reus is Dortmund’s longest-serving player, returning to the Borussia Mönchengladbach youth club ten years ago.
During that time, he scored 156 goals – 18 behind the club’s all-time record scorer, Alfred Preissler.
Jude Bellingham also acknowledged that it will be a difficult task for Haaland . to stop
Reus’ comments about Haaland were echoed by his current team-mate Jude Bellingham.
“I’m not really sure to be honest!” Bellingham said during Dortmund’s pre-match press conference on Tuesday when asked how Haaland can be stopped.
“We’ll have to figure it out. He’s a player with a lot of quality and a lot of physical attributes that make him dangerous and as I said, it’s not an individual task, it’s something the team has to deal with collectively.”
