Erling Haaland is reportedly close to committing his future to Manchester City by signing a lucrative contract extension. However, the deal is expected to include a release clause.
Haaland has made an excellent start to the new Premier League season, scoring seven goals in Man City’s opening three games.
The striker went into the international break with Norway having scored back-to-back Premier League hat-tricks against Ipswich and West Ham.
Spanish newspaper Brand report that Haaland is expected to commit his future to the Premier League champions soon by signing a new contract.
His current contract expires in the summer of 2027.

Real Madrid do not see Haaland as a priority after signing Kylian Mbappe this summer
Marca began its report with the headline ‘renewal and an exemption clause’.
According to the report, Man City will make Haaland the highest-paid player in the Premier League based on his basic salary, with teammate Kevin De Bruyne currently holding the title.
De Bruyne is said to earn a weekly wage of £425,000 at Man City, while Haaland currently earns a basic salary of £375,000-a-week.
However, Mail Sport understands that while Haaland will receive a basic salary similar to the other higher-paid players at the Etihad Stadium, a series of substantial, near-guaranteed bonuses will see his weekly wage rise above £850,000.
According to Marca, Haaland’s new deal is expected to include a release clause, which should also be feasible for Spanish giants Real Madrid in the future.
The Champions League champions are still fans of Haaland, but the Norwegian is not currently seen as a priority. This summer, Kylian Mbappé was added to an already strong attacking line.
Haaland, his father Alf-Inge and agent Rafael Pimienta reportedly see a release clause as a way to ensure the striker retains control over his future and career.
Pimenta said last year that Haaland is “the master of his destiny” but that he will always make sure he does what is right for his club.

A similar release clause was triggered by Man City when they signed Haaland from Borussia Dortmund for £51million in the summer of 2021.
Haaland has enjoyed immense success at Man City, with the forward scoring 97 goals in 102 appearances for the club so far.
This also includes winning the Premier League Golden Boot in the last two seasons.
The 24-year-old also won the Premier League twice, the Champions League and the FA Cup in his two seasons at the club.
