The irrepressible Erling Haaland has broken another record after scoring in Manchester City’s Champions League destruction of Bayern Munich.
The Norwegian scored his 45th goal of the season in Tuesday night’s 3-0 win at the Etihad Stadium, a result that put a foot into the semi-finals for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Haaland’s goal tally in all competitions is now the highest in a single season by a player at a Premier League club.
He surpassed the 44 goals scored by Ruud van Nistelrooy of Manchester United in 2002-03 and Mohamed Salah of Liverpool in 2017-2018.
And while it took both players 52 games to rack up that many goals, Haaland has reached the milestone in just 39 games.

Borussia Dortmund’s £51m summer signing has scored 30 Premier League goals, 11 in the Champions League, three in the FA Cup and one in the EFL Cup.
With City still on track in the first three of those competitions, Haaland could add a further 13 games to his tally.
Haaland is already City’s top goalscorer in a single season, with his 39th goal of the season last month, overtaking a record set by Tommy Johnson since 1929.
He is likely to break the record for most Premier League goals in a single season – not only that for a 38-game season held by Salah (32), but also that for a 42-game season shared by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole (34).
Haaland can still beat Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 17 goals in a single Champions League campaign, set in 2013-14, if he adds his 11 to date.
Pep Guardiola’s side could win another Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League silver treble, matching Manchester United’s 1998-99 performance.
They are currently six points behind league leaders Arsenal, but still have a game credit to the Gunners. City will resume the competition this Saturday night at home to struggling Leicester City.
Sheffield United await them in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Saturday 22 April, with either Man United or Brighton lurking in the final.
The second leg of the match with Bayern is next Wednesday, with either Chelsea or Real Madrid playing in the last four.
