It’s unstoppable! Erling Haaland beats Kylian Mbappe to become the youngest player to score 30 goals in Champions League HISTORY…reaching the incredible stat in record time with his first CL game against Leipzig
- Haaland scored from the penalty spot to break another Man City record
- The Norwegian forward quickly scored a hat-trick against RB Leipzig at the Etihad
- He broke City’s 94-year-old record for most goals scored in a season with his fifth
Manchester City star Erling Haaland has made history once again, breaking Kylian Mbappe’s record to become the youngest player to score 30 goals in Premier League history.
Adding further weight to this staggering stat is the fact that the Norwegian goal man reached 30 goals faster than any other player.
Haaland’s mammoth achievement took just 25 appearances.
The record was broken when Haaland stepped up to take a penalty for the Manchester-based side in their round of 16 second leg against RB Leipzig.
The striker slotted the ball in with confidence, past goalkeeper Janis Blaswich with the slightest hint of run.
Erling Haaland made history on Tuesday night by becoming the youngest player to score 30 goals in European competition.
In cold blood from the penalty spot, Haaland’s first goal led to City’s thrashing of their Austrian visitors.
Haaland celebrated his second goal with his jubilant teammate Bernardo Silva
After scoring his second shot, a whip-speed just 78 seconds later, Haaland hit 36 goals in 36 appearances for his team, joining in the summer transfer window from Borussia Dortmund.
Just before the half-time whistle, Haaland scored his hat-trick by poking the ball over the line after a frantic City corner.
Less than ten minutes after the start of the second half, Haaland scored his fourth and tied City’s season high for goals in 94 years, with his 38th in all competitions.
He surpassed this number, set by Tommy Johnson in 1927/28, breaking the record less than three minutes later.
Haaland has scored eight goals for City’s sky blue in this competition, with most of his goals coming during his time at Dortmund.
But the 22-year-old got his first taste of scoring in Europe during his time at Red Bull Salzburg, where he netted eight goals in 2019 before moving to the Bundesliga mid-season.
Haaland is 116 days younger than Paris Saint-Germain’s Mbappe when he scored his 30th Champions League goal.
The Norwegian’s name strikes fear into the hearts of even the best-trained defenders.
Now 24 years old, the former world champion has increased his total to 40 goals.
But unlike the Nordic superstar, the French striker will not be able to add to his tally this year, after the Ligue 1 club were unceremoniously knocked out of the competition after losing their time in the second leg against Bayern de Munich.
When it comes to breaking records, Haaland has form in this competition.
Along the same lines, he is the player who has reached 20 goals the fastest, and the one who has played the fewest games: only 14.
