Erik ten Hag is confident his Manchester United strikers will get back in goal regardless of whether he can secure a new signing in the January transfer window – but warned they must ‘go a step further’.
United go into Sunday’s clash with Everton at Goodison Park having scored just thirteen goals in twelve Premier League games this season. Marcus Rashford is the only striker to score in the league and even then, last season’s top scorer, who scored 30 goals last season, has just one goal to his name this season.
United have been linked with signing a new striker in January, despite Atalanta paying £72million for Rasmus Hojlund in the summer.
However, Ten Hag preferred to focus on the players already in his squad when asked about the possibility of bringing in new blood during the pre-match press conference.

However, he insisted he was ‘confident’ in his options and pointed to Hojlund’s five Champions League goals as proof of quality
He backed his strikers to perform well and end the tough spell, but also told them to take on the challenge of playing for a club like United.
“I’m confident,” he said. ‘Our players can score goals, some have already shown that. Rashy scored 30 goals last season, Rasmus Hojlund scored five goals in the Champions League, which is huge. Not many players across Europe can achieve that.
“Our players are capable of scoring goals and there will come a time when they will do the same. As a team we are good, we are fifth in the Premier League in terms of creating chances.
‘They have to go a step further, they know that. You have to deal with the pressure and standards of Man United, but our players have the ability to score goals.”
