Erik ten Hag has urged Marcus Rashford to be more clinical in front of goal following the Manchester United striker’s failed performance against Omonia Nicosia.
Rashford squandered a series of chances against the Cypriots before substitute Scott McTominay took a 93rd minute winner in Thursday night’s Europa League game at Old Trafford.
Rashford has revived his United career under Ten Hag with five goals in ten games, and he looks more confident than he has in over a year, but the Dutchman still believes the 24-year-old can be more productive.

United boss Erik ten Hag has urged Rashford to be more clinical in front of goal after misses
“He did a lot of things right, but finally he knows he needs to be more clinical and score a goal,” said Ten Hag.
“If you have such good moves and such good combinations, good actions, then you have to finish.
“I know sometimes it’s the game, it’s not your night and it’s about the form of the day, but it can turn into a different game. I think he is doing very well, you can see that in the opportunities he creates.’

Referring to Rashford’s disallowed goal for handball in United’s 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday, Ten Hag added: “Now it’s two games he’s had a bit of bad luck.
On Sunday he deserved a goal, but it was called off, today he didn’t score. I say save it for next week.’
Ten Hag believes he has enough firepower in his squad after adding Antony to a strike force that includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Anthony Martial, Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga.

When asked if he is sure that United have strikers who can score 20 or more goals per season, Ten Hag replied: “Yes, I have the most confidence in them. In my teams there are players who will score.
“They get into position and in the last part it’s also about the freedom of the player, the intuition, the space they have to occupy. If they have that feeling, you will see that when they have the talent, when they have the potential, they will score that number of goals.
“I think we have players in our squad who can score that number of goals, but you can also divide it up because we have a lot of goalscorers in the attacking department. But I think we also need something from the midfield and the defensive department.’
Antony has scored three goals in his first three Premier League appearances for United, and Ten Hag believes the Brazilian will only get better after his £82million transfer from Ajax.

“I think we’ve now seen his dribbling ability, his pace, his finishing, his creation,” said the United boss.
‘Now he also has to work on more variety. He is a player who can quickly adapt to a high level. He is a player who likes challenges. He needs challenges. Every training is a challenge for him, every match is a challenge and that will get the best out of him. He likes that.
“I think there is a lot of room for improvement with him, but he is already at a very good level. He is the first player in history to score three consecutive goals for Man United. That shows all its potential.’
