Erik ten Hag urges Man United fans to back Marcus Rashford after forward spoke out over ‘months of abuse’ and said ‘enough is enough’ as he struggles to match last season’s form

Erik ten Hag has called on Manchester United fans to support Marcus Rashford and help him return to the level of last season.

Rashford took to social media early on Friday morning to call out what he said was months of ‘abuse’ directed his way.

Replying to a Man United fan account, he posted: ‘I appreciate your support! It’s abuse and has been for months. Enough is enough.’

Asked about the criticism leveled at Rashford, who was jeered by United fans in the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City, he wants a united front to help Rashford turn around his dismal season.

“I obviously have a lot of sympathy for Rashy,” said Ten Hag.

“Last year he had a brilliant season, the best season of his career with 30 goals, so you see what he is capable of.

‘This season he didn’t give the performances and people are very critical. I think we should support him.

“Everyone should support him and push him to get back to last year’s level.”

Rashford is not the only one to be criticized for poor performances from supporters, with Antony booed on Wednesday night before his early withdrawal against Burnley.

But under pressure from Rashford, who has scored just eight goals for United this season, Ten Hag remains unwavering in his support for his winger.

“I think he needs the support,” he continued.

‘We all know what he is capable of, we all have to support him and push him. He can do better than this year. Last year we saw that he was really brilliant.’

He added: “I think the fans are always behind us.”

Only Mason Mount returns to the Manchester United squad for the weekend visit of Burnley, with Ten Hag optimistic that Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez and Anthony Martial can feature before the season ends.
