Erik ten Hag slams Marcus Rashford’s decision to go clubbing after Sunday’s Manchester derby defeat as UNACCEPTABLE… as the United star apologises for the birthday celebration mistake
Erik ten Hag has told Marcus Rashford that his decision to go to a nightclub after the Manchester derby defeat was unacceptable.
Mail Sport revealed this week that the United and England forward spent the evening at Manchester’s Chinawhite nightclub on Sunday to celebrate his 26th birthday.
Manager Ten Hag said: ‘I talked to him about it. It’s unacceptable. He apologized and that was it. For us it is an internal matter.’
Rashford is unlikely to be fined as he was not out within 48 hours of United’s next match, the 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle on Wednesday.
But Ten Hag appears to be irritated by the perception that one of his big players is on the move so quickly after a poor team performance against City. United also lost that game 3-0.
Rashford is available for this afternoon’s crucial Premier League match against Fulham and Ten Hag said: ‘He is very motivated to put things right. He is completely with us.
‘He made a mistake, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t belong. I see him every day at training, I know what he does.’
Rashford previously collided with Ten Hag. Last season he was dropped from a game at Wolves after being late for a meeting.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag was asked whether the number of managers United have had since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson indicates that something is not right at Old Trafford.
“It’s possible,” he said. ‘But sometimes you have difficult times and if you stick together, which we are, you will get through it.’
Industry insiders say a huge cash injection from Sir Jim Ratcliffe ‘won’t touch the sides’ when it comes to the redevelopment of Old Trafford.
Ratcliffe’s £1.3 billion deal to buy 25 percent of United will be announced soon. And Ratcliffe will also release £245 million to improve the club’s facilities.
But experts warned that the sum, if spent entirely on the crumbling Old Trafford, would not be transformative. “It will fall far short of what is needed,” one source said. ‘This doesn’t touch the sides.
Erling Haaland scored twice during the match, with United also suffering a 3–0 defeat to Newcastle in the EFL Cup in midweek.
Ten Hag also added that there was a possibility that the number of managers Man United have had in recent years indicated that there were ongoing problems at Old Trafford
“If they were to expand the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand and create thousands of new hospitality venues, they would need more than this. That’s before you start talking about the roof, the other stands and the training ground.’
Toto Wolff talks to Ratcliffe about investing in United – and Lewis Hamilton could also be interested.
Wolff and Ratcliffe each have a one-third stake in the Mercedes Formula 1 team.
The Austrian said: ‘If I felt I could contribute, I would consider joining him. Lewis is in my very close circle of friends. We talk a lot about career planning. I would like to be part of his future.’
