Don’t party too much! Erik ten Hag reminds Lisandro Martínez that Man United’s Premier League campaign is about to resume as the defender celebrates Argentina’s World Cup triumph on his home soil.
Erik ten Hag has told Lisandro Martinez not to enjoy Argentina’s World Cup celebrations too much as Manchester United prepare to resume their Premier League campaign.
The central defender featured in five of Argentina’s games in Qatar, though not the final, before returning to his homeland.
Hundreds of thousands of raving fans mobbed the victorious players as they returned to Buenos Aires and the celebrations continued throughout the week.

The defender posted on his Instagram account this image of the convertible coach parade.

Martínez was photographed wearing sunglasses and looking worse next to Cristian Romero and Nahuel Molina the day after Argentina’s celebrations.
But with United playing Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, Ten Hag has reminded Martinez, and French defender Raphael Varane, who was on the losing side in the final, that he hopes they will return to the club as soon as possible.
‘[Martinez] has been celebrating in Buenos Aires and I can understand that. It is the highest you can achieve,” Ten Hag said.
But also, Lisandro Martínez has to accept that the Premier League will continue on the 27th.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag gave Martinez a little push that the team’s Premier League campaign is about to resume.

‘Of course [Varane] he is disappointed to lose, but I think he can also be proud of being in the final again and of all he has achieved in his career.’
United returned to competitive action after the World Cup with a 2-0 home win over Burnley in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, with Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford scoring.
They host Forest on December 27, travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers on New Year’s Eve and welcome Bournemouth to Old Trafford on January 3 as they try to move up from fifth in the table.
United defender Raphael Varane ended up on the losing side when France were beaten in Qatar.
Harry Maguire missed the Burnley game through illness but is likely to partner Victor Lindelof in the defense against Forest if Martinez and Varane are still absent.
It came as Ten Hag confirmed winger Jadon Sancho is unlikely to be available for the Forest game amid concerns over his mental well-being.
Sancho has not played for United since October and missed their training camp in Spain earlier this month after Ten Hag said he was “not physically or mentally ready” to take part.

The 22-year-old, who has closed his accounts on social networks, has been in the Netherlands working with coaches recommended by the coach.
United have not put a time limit on Sancho’s return, and Ten Hag replied ‘I don’t think so’ when asked if he would play any role against Forest.
