Evra, who worked as an expert on Amazon Prime Video before the match, stunned fellow experts Thierry Henry and Roberto Martinez, as well as host Gabby Logan, by plucking some grass from the field before popping it into his mouth.

After the laughter died down, Erik ten Hag, who appeared before his pre-match interview, revealed that he had seen the act before Logan apologized on behalf of the former Red Devils defender.

The 41-year-old said he should taste the grass every time he returns to Old Trafford

Looking back at the comment box, Logan, next to ten Hag, said to a laughing Henry, “Share it, Thierry. Do you want to say something?’

The former Arsenal forward replied: ‘The boss just asked if Pat was enjoying the grass.’

ten Hag laughed, before Logan added, “Did you see him eat the grass? Sorry about that. I must apologize for him.’

Later in the broadcast, Evra ate more grass on another part of the ground.

Beforehand, Evra spoke emotionally about his memories of Old Trafford, where he played 377 games for United between 2006 and 2014.

He said, ‘It’s a special place, I call it home. It’s a bit windy but I asked someone to turn off the air con!

“When I come here I always test the grass, it’s a little garlicky, but it’s the same.”

Henry and Martinez chuckled, before adding their own take on Old Trafford.

Martinez said: ‘The memories, it’s an iconic stadium. We have all suffered preparing to come here. Old Trafford is something that gives meaning to the Premier League.”

Henry added: “I will put my Arsenal side aside. It’s a great stadium.

‘When I think of Old Trafford, I think of’ [Eric] cantona. We all wanted to go home to watch him. It was about Cantona, but we won the competition here!’
