Erik ten Hag admits Harry Maguire is not happy with a supporting role at Manchester United and says the English defender must make a decision about his future this summer.
Despite still officially being United’s captain, Maguire has made just eight Premier League starts this season after falling down the centre-back pecking order under Ten Hag.
Maguire is on the verge of leaving Old Trafford and United are ready to listen to offers for the 30-year-old whose £80 million transfer fee from Leicester City in 2019 was a world record for a defender.
“Let’s just say I’m glad he’s here and he did his job when we needed him. But it is also a consideration that he has to make’, says Ten Hag.
“No one would be happy with this situation. He’s not that good. He always trains at the best level with 100 percent commitment. So he handles that situation well and as captain he is important for the team.

You can’t do it with 11 players. It’s impossible. You need double positions.’
The United manager wants De Gea to continue to improve in playing from the back. He added: “It’s not what I want, it’s more what top-flight football demands these days.
“Observing the biggest teams, you have to be able to play from behind and use your goalkeeper as a plus, otherwise opponents will very easily put pressure on you.
‘He had to get up. He showed progress in a number of matches.’
