Manchester United fans cheered manager Erik ten Hag as the head coach picked up a green and gold ‘Glazers out’ scarf to throw back at the crowd.

This came after their 1-0 win over Aston Villa where Bruno Fernandes’ goal gave the Red Devils a huge boost in their quest for Champions League football next season.

Although Ten Hag is unaware of the scarf’s connotations, he was cheered by the home fans after being recorded throwing back a green and gold scarf at Stretford End.

The Dutchman walked off the field before noticing a flag next to him, which he picked up and handed out to cheering supporters.

After Friday’s supposed deadline for bidders interested in buying Old Trafford, United supporters were vociferous as they protested against the Glazer family again.

The supporters held up banners and brought green and gold scarves in protest against the Glazers

What does the green and gold scarf symbolize?

The green and gold colors are those of Manchester United’s past and were used as a protest against the Glazers.

United’s red and black colors have been replaced by green and gold as a throwback to when the club was known as Newton Heath and played in green and gold.

The yellow color is seen as a symbol of love for the beautiful game and a rejection of their current owners.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is believed to be the frontrunner to take over from the Glazer family, ahead of Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani.

However, the Englishman’s desire is to buy 69 per cent of the club or just over 50 per cent if the Glazer brothers Joel and Avram want to stay in what would be a controversial move, the Daily Mail reported last week.

Supporters displayed banners outside Old Trafford ahead of their clash against Aston Villa, with fans marching with flares in protest against the Glazer family.

The fans have raised their voices several times this season chanting against their owners during games and demanding that they sell the club.

A protest began on Sunday ahead of the game against Villa and supporters have expressed their feelings about the current situation in Manchester.

It remains to be seen who will be successful in their bid for the English giants.

However, any move that would see the Glazers stick is bound to meet further protests from the fans, who may think Ten Hag is on their side.
