Erik ten Hag ‘holds showdown talks’ with Alejandro Garnacho after the Man United star LIKED two posts accusing his manager of ‘throwing him under a bus’ and ‘blaming’ him for draw at Bournemouth

Erik ten Hag has reportedly held showdown talks with Alejandro Garnacho after the Manchester United star liked two social media posts criticizing his manager.

Garnacho was sent off at half-time as the Red Devils failed to win in the league for the fourth match after the rebound, in a 2–2 draw away at Bournemouth.

Tweets from Mark Goldbridge, host of renowned fan channel United Stand, criticized Ten Hag for his decision to withdraw Garnacho, and for suggesting the Argentine’s work rate was a reason to take him off during a post-match interview.

Garnacho, who has more than 700,000 followers on X, was spotted liking both of Goldbridge’s tweets before later deleting them.

The Manchester Evening News have now reported that Ten Hag has had private conversations with the 19-year-old about his social media activities.

A club spokesperson reportedly said the matter was being handled internally, but did not clarify whether he had been punished for these likes.

Speaking about his decision to replace Garnacho at half-time on Saturday, Ten Hag appeared to suggest the striker was not working hard enough.

In the second half there were two things,” he said. ‘Stay in formation when in possession and don’t become erratic.

‘Because we’re going to create, and we’ve given away a lot of space. And the second thing is: do your job on the defensive end.

“The truth is that right now, with all the problems we have, we are playing at our level and we can play very well at our level.”

Taking to social media midway through the second half, Goldbridge tweeted: ‘Garnacho has been one of our best players this season.

‘Bad first half, but taking him off the pitch at half-time and holding him back because the problem is a joke. Many have done much worse week in and week out and are still here.”

He then reposted after Ten Hag’s comments, adding: ‘Ten Hag subtly blames Garnacho in the post-match press conference… it’s not right to throw a 19 year old under the bus who actually delivered for you this season.

“But he’s clearly afraid of upsetting the bigger earners.”

The Argentine’s frustrations were also evident when he posted a photo of himself looking dejected during the match on his Instagram Story.

In a season of woe, Garnacho was one of United’s few bright spots.

He scored nine goals and assisted four times in his 42 appearances in all competitions.

It is not the first time that a United player’s social media activity has become an issue for the club and manager Erik ten Hag.

Jadon Sancho essentially called the Dutchman a liar over claims he had not performed well in training.

The England international was subsequently banned from United’s first team and loaned out to former club Borussia Dortmund in January.
