Erik ten Hag is set to take charge of Manchester United’s next match despite club officials discussing his uncertain future at a summit yesterday.

Ten Hag’s position remains up in the air after six hours of talks between senior United figures in London, but he has gone on holiday during the international break confident he will not be sacked before returning to action against Brentford.

Minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe hosted the meeting at INEOS headquarters in Knightsbridge and the manager’s position is understood to have been on the agenda.

He will return to Carrington early next week to begin his preparations.

Sources have told The Mirror that it is ‘business as usual’ at the club after the meeting with Ten Hag was apparently granted a stay of execution.

However, there is a realization on the part of the coach that results and performances must improve in the wake of United’s worst ever start to a Premier League season.

Ten Hag steadied the ship somewhat after a 3-3 draw at Porto in the Europa League and a goalless draw against Aston Villa on Sunday, but the results did little to allay the fervent speculation surrounding his position.

United are fourteenth in the top flight with just two wins from seven games – and a paltry goal difference of minus three – and Ten Hag’s job is firmly at stake.

Ratcliffe was joined for the summit by co-chairman Joel Glazer, CEO Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth, technical director Jason Wilcox and managing director Sir Dave Brailsford.

United are remaining tight-lipped about any outcome, but the lack of a statement on Ten Hag’s future suggests he will remain in charge for the foreseeable future.

However, Ratcliffe failed to publicly back him last week when he insisted, insisting the decision on the manager is ‘not my decision’.

Mailsport understands that Ten Hag’s fate will be decided by billionaire Glazer and Brailsford. Berrada, Ashworth and Wilcox will also make their recommendations.

United are said to be wary of fueling speculation after Thomas Tuchel – a former target – and Simone Inzaghi were both linked with the job in recent days.

The club could also temporarily call on Ruud van Nistelrooy, one of Ten Hag’s assistants, if the club decides to pull the trigger this season. The United legend returned to Old Trafford this summer as part of a coaching change.
