Erik ten Hag has demanded an apology from Fulham for mocking Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes for feigning an injury in Saturday’s match at Old Trafford.

Fulham posted a clip on their official TikTok account of Fernandes going down heavily under a challenge from Sasa Lukic and then quickly getting back up, along with a sarcastic caption that read ‘so glad he’s doing well’.

As of Thursday morning, it had 43,000 likes.

United sources said Fulham’s post was regrettable and Ten Hag called on the London club to apologize.

“So I didn’t know this, but if they did it I would say it’s not right,” the United boss said.

“It is absolutely not right for a club to make such a statement because it is completely out of order and wrong and they should apologize for it.”

Ten Hag also believes Fernandes should be given more protection from referees after claiming the Portuguese star was targeted by Nottingham Forest during Wednesday’s FA Cup tie at the City Ground due to the publicity surrounding his injury against Fulham.

Fernandes subsequently limped out of the City Ground but will be fit for Sunday’s Manchester derby at the Etihad.

“I thought it was absolutely a foul on Saturday and really misjudged by the media, by social media, to blame him.” added Ten Hag.

‘That was my point yesterday and opponents targeted him and that is not right. He was fouled even after the ball had been kicked.”

Immediately after the game against Forest, Ten Hag had said: “You saw that Forest was aiming at him,” said Ten Hag.

‘There were a lot of fouls on him. When he gets the ball, you see that they focus on him very closely.

‘I won’t say what it is, but it was a serious injury. I see social media criticizing him. It is pathetic. He has a serious injury, he continued to play on Saturday and also fought to be part of this match.

‘He has a very high pain threshold. He did something similar against Spurs last year. It shows his leadership.”
