  • Eric Bailly set to join Turkish side Besiktas after agreeing to leave Man United
  • The 29-year-old central defender signs a one-year contract with the Turkish club
  • Bailly struggled with injuries and was loaned to Marseille last season

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly is closing in on a permanent move to Besiktas as Erik ten Hag prepares to finally get rid of the unwanted defender.

Bailly joined LaLiga club Villarreal seven years ago for £30 million under Jose Mourinho, but has failed to convince Ten Hag that he is worthy of a place in his side.

The 29-year-old was loaned to French side Marseille last season before returning to United at the end of the season after his loan spell expired.

However, Bailly is now poised for a move to Turkey as talks between United, Besiktas and Bailly continue at an advanced stage.

Bailly has been courted by the Turkish club throughout the transfer window and will sign a one-year contract with Besiktas where he will look to revive his stalled career.

Turkish sides have until September 15 to complete their squads, while the Premier League transfer window closed last Friday.

Bailly has also had interest from players such as Fulham and Marseille, but has been unable to agree on terms after talks with both clubs.

It is clear, however, that he has compromised on terms to complete his move to Besiktas as the curtain draws closer on a largely disappointing Man United career.

Bailly has struggled with long-term injuries in recent years, which has prevented him from rediscovering the best career form he had previously arrived in Manchester.

United have cover after Jonny Evans signed a one-year contract with the club last Friday.
