New York City Mayor Eric Adams joined dozens of police officers at the funeral of an NYPD officer who was killed off-duty while trying to buy a car.
Adams appeared alongside hundreds of police officers as the body of 26-year-old Adeed Fayaz was carried in a flag-draped casket at the Coney Island Avenue lavatory.
The widow of the father-of-two attended and broke down in tears as the folded American flag from her husband’s casket was folded and handed over to her. Mayor Adams said there was “not a word in our vocabulary” to describe the loss of a parent
Fayaz’s father spoke up and said through an interpreter that he did not want “parents to lose their sons, daughters, children” and that he wanted the violence to end with his son.
Officer Fayaz was shot in the head last weekend while trying to purchase a car through a Facebook Marketplace listing. His alleged shooter, Randy ‘Popper’ Jones, 38, appeared in Brooklyn Criminal Court and was charged with first degree murder.

The married father of two was allegedly shot in the head by Jones while trying to shop for a car on Facebook Marketplace on Saturday.
Crowds of police officers lined the streets outside the Makki Masjid Muslim Center in Brooklyn as Fayaz’s coffin was carried to a waiting hearse.
His father, Sadigat Fayaz, broke down in tears and said, ‘I don’t want to see any other father lose their sons, daughters or children.’
“I want this to stop with my son, here,” she added.
The policeman was remembered as ‘the star’ not only of his police station, but also of his family.
Mayor Adams directed his comments directly to Fayaz’s sons Zayan, 3, and Rayan, 4.
‘Adeed leaves a family. He not only was he a police officer, but he was also a father,’ Adams said, ‘My heart goes out to Madiha Sabeel. We will continue to pray and encourage you.’
‘Children, there isn’t a story we can tell about the loss of a parent. There is no word in our vocabulary that we associate with what happens when children lose their parents on this magnitude.’

Fayaz, who has served in the NYPD since 2017, traveled with his brother-in-law to meet with the salesman of a Honda Odyssey at 7 p.m. on February 4.
When they arrived, Jone allegedly pulled a gun on them and demanded the $24,000 in cash they had brought for the alleged purchase of the car.
Jones allegedly wrestled Fayaz in a headlock, and at some point in the altercation, the officer was shot in the head.
Fayaz’s brother-in-law then grabbed the off-duty officer’s gun and fired at the attacker, missing but hitting his getaway BMW, which was owned by his mother.
The car was located abandoned in Harlem, near where the suspect lived with his girlfriend.
Jones, who has several prior convictions, was tracked down two days after the incident at a Days Inn hotel in Nanuet in Rockland County on Monday.

Jones is believed to be behind a similar robbery that took place near the scene of the shooting on January 13.
Jones has a criminal record with at least 22 arrests for a variety of crimes, including some violent assaults.
He has previously been booked for stalking, grand theft and strangulation.
NYPD officers arrested Jones with Fayaz’s handcuffs and dragged him back to Brooklyn, where he was charged with murder and robbery.
The fallen officer received a traditional “remains transfer” ceremony at the hospital, while flags were flown at half mast at his Borough Park compound in his honour.
Officers also lined the street as Jones was taken on his criminal ride before his arraignment hearing on Wednesday.
The 66th Precinct is accepting donations for Fayaz’s family, and cash donations are accepted at the precinct.
Bank transfers are also accepted, and those wishing to donate are urged to contact the PCT.
