Epic Games executive VP admits that ‘we hope at some point to use Nintendo’s characters’
Fortnite is known for its impressive roster, featuring characters from all TV and video games. It's one of the best-known features of the competitive shooter.
However, getting the likes of Leon Kennedy out Resident Evil 4 or Omni Man Invincible is not enough for Epic Games; it still misses its chance at something bigger. In an interview with AxiosEVP Saxs Persson recently explained how Nintendo and its characters are still an ultimate goal.
“Nintendo has their strategy, and we have our strategy, and we hope to use their characters at some point,” Persson said. “Our players would love it.”
However, players have wondered if that is the case Fortnites The cross-platform nature has kept Nintendo from getting involved in the shooter's ever-expanding cast of characters. Because you can play Fortnite on PC, PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, this means Nintendo characters can appear on consoles other than Nintendo Switch.
Previously, Nintendo did a crossover with one of Epic Games' IPs, Rocket League. However, the Nintendo content would appear as a default item for players who were not using the Switch.
Unfortunately, while this may have worked Rocket League, Fortnite is another matter. All the new characters and game mods have been available to every player lately, so splitting up the fanbase now and giving only a few players access to fantastic co-op doesn't seem to fit the style of this competitive battle royale.
For now, players will have to make do with all the various incredible characters already in Fortnite, like Venom, John Wick, and Peter Griffin. It seems like there's a long shot that iconic Nintendo characters like Samus or Link will be added Fortnite.
