Environmental specialist tried to hire hit man to kill woman of man she met on Match.com

An environmental compliance specialist allegedly tried to hire a hit man to kill the wife of a man she met on Match.com.

Melody Sasser allegedly placed an order through a website called Online Killers Market to hire a hit man to kill Jennifer Wallace, the wife of a man she had met online.

In an affidavit seen by DailyMail.com, prosecutors shared details of a transaction made in January of this year related to the alleged murder-for-hire.

Authorities were first made aware of Sasser’s alleged plan in April, when a foreign law enforcement agency notified the Department of Homeland Security that Jennifer Wallace was the target of an assassination plot.

The overseas agency, according to the complaint, had uncovered messages between a US user named “cattree,” who prosecutors say is Sasser, and the operator of the Online Killers Market.

The first, dated January 11, 2023, contained Jennifer Wallace’s full name and address in Prattville, Alabama, along with an escrow payment that was made.

For the services, Sasser allegedly made payments totaling $9,750 in Bitcoin, an untraceable cryptocurrency.

Alongside the transaction, Sasser had included a description of how she wanted the murder carried out and details about the Wallace’s life.

According to court documents, Sasser asked the site, “It must seem random or accidental, or plant drugs, not want a lengthy investigation.”

‘She has recently moved in with her new husband, she works from home and in the office in Birmingham.

‘She drives a blue Subaru Outback, her husband drives a maroon Jeep Grand Cherokee.

“Her husband works part time at Publix. They have three dogs that bark and jump.”

According to the affidavit, the information submitted about Jennifer Wallace and her husband has been verified to be 100% accurate.

Sasser had also uploaded an image of Jennifer to the site so she could be positively identified by the assigned “hitman.”

After agents informed the Wallaces of the threat to their lives, Jennifer allegedly immediately told the agents about Sasser.

Wallace told police that Sasser and her husband David had been hiking buddies in Knoxville, Tennessee, before David moved to Alabama to be with his fiancé Jennifer.

Jennifer Wallace told police that Sasser then showed up at their Alabama home and told them, “I hope you both fall off a cliff and die.”

The two then say they began receiving threatening calls from a person using a device to disguise their voice.

Prosecutors say that using the fitness app Strava, Sasser was able to track the couple on their walks and then relayed this information to the hitman marketplace.

According to the affidavit, Sasser had several back-and-forth messages about the murder-for-hire and regularly messaged the site asking for updates.

Investigators managed to track the money in the case and subpoenaed Coinhub, which operates Bitcoin ATMs that Sasser allegedly used.

The company responded with transactional data and customer information that identified Sasser as “cat tree,” the complaint said.

She had bought Bitcoin with cash at least four times at Coinhub ATMs in Knoxville.

She then sent the money to a digital wallet operated by Online Killers Market, the complaint states, and the “cattree” phone number provided to complete the transactions belonged to Sasser.

According to the Daily Beast, Sasser was arrested on May 18 and remanded in custody, where she will remain until another trial on June 8.
