Enormous Texas ranch with its own mountain range lists for $27M

A massive Texas ranch and mountain range are for sale for a staggering $27 million.

The 32,000-acre Wylie Mountains Ranch in Van Horn, Texas, is about a two-hour drive from El Paso and encompasses nearly 100 percent of the nearby mountain range, according to the mention.

“One of the more interesting features of this ranch is the fact that it covers almost the entire Wylie Mountains, giving the manager a unique opportunity to manage the land and the wildlife that inhabits these mountains,” agent Ross Studer told DailyMail.com.

“The size of an estate like the Wylie Mountains Ranch is the kind of place that comes along perhaps once in a generation,” said the Chr. reported.

Studer went on to describe the property as a “legacy ranch,” a term he said they don’t use lightly.

The Mississippi man moved to the Lone Star State in 1850 and purchased the land where he would establish his ranch five years later.

The mountain range even has two peaks named Bob and Mollie, after Wylie and his wife, according to Republic Ranches.

The property comprises a modest three bedroom, two bathroom home.

There are also barns, sheds, coolers, traps and pens on site, which would be helpful if the new owner is interested in housing cattle, Republic Ranches reported.

According to the listing, the ranch is located at an elevation of 1,200 to 1,620 meters and has a rich diversity of ecosystems and wildlife.

The area is home to several ecosystems characteristic of the Chihuahuan Desert, including grasslands, scrub, foothills, canyons, mountains, and numerous peaks exceeding 5,000 feet (1,500 m).

There are also unique trees found primarily in canyons and watersheds, such as the nettle tree and the evergreen sumac.

The new homeowners can also expect to encounter deer, antelope and several species of quail on the 32,000-acre property.

However, the area is “managed primarily for wildlife, with a limited feeding program and water distribution,” the advertisement states.

The land can be used for grazing cattle, as in the past. At the moment, only a few stray cows from the neighbours roam around.

It is also home to butterscotch agate, a mineral that can be used in jewelry and resembles butterscotch toffee.

“The Wylie Mountains Ranch offers incredible hunting and other wildlife recreation opportunities thanks to the many species of animals found on the ranch, including mules, elk, aoudad, blue quail, Gambel’s quail, doves, migratory birds and predators,” realtor Charles Davidson told DailyMail.com.

Another unique spot on the property is a sinkhole that “invites further exploration,” the listing says.

On the water front, new homeowners will have access to six operational water wells, most of which are 213 meters deep and capable of producing enough water for livestock operations.

“There is an extensive distribution system to troughs and storage in many areas of the ranch. There are also numerous holding tanks to capture and retain runoff water for periods after a rain event,” the listing added.
