English winemaker Nyetimber predicts that despite this summer’s extreme weather he is on course for a record harvest.
Hot, dry conditions made for a ‘challenging’ period early in the season, although it got cooler and wetter later on.
The Sussex-based company said its Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes would be “high quality” this year.

Nyetimber will begin harvesting Thursday on a record 803 hectares in vineyards in West Sussex, Hampshire and Kent.

Nyetimber says it accounts for more than 10 percent of the total UK sparkling wine market and expects to produce two million bottles a year by 2026.
The wine is sold in the Ritz and the Savoy hotels in London and exported worldwide.
Chief winemaker Cherie Spriggs said: ‘We have the experience to make the most of the climate in which we grow our grapes. The quality looks fantastic.’
