Referee Michael Oliver has been criticized by fans for disallowing Nico Schlotterbeck’s goal for Germany against Switzerland at the 2024 European Championship.

Schlotterbeck thought he had put Germany ahead with a header in the early stages of the last 16.

However, the goal was disallowed due to a foul by Joshua Kimmich.

Fans were quick to complain again about decisions by England officials, especially after Anthony Taylor and Stuart Attwell were criticised for taking too long to disallow Xavi Simons’ goal for the Netherlands against France.

Commenting on Oliver’s decision to rule out Germany’s goal, Mark Goldbridge wrote: ‘I don’t understand how that’s not allowed….English ref again.’

Meanwhile, UTD Trey stated: ‘Of course an English referee would rule out a goal like that, Germany were robbed, that’s insanely soft’.

Saeed TV was critical of English referees. They wrote: ‘Never a foul. English refs!!!’.

The criticism of the English officials continued when another user said: ‘English referees should not be allowed anywhere near international tournaments!’.

Furthermore, another user wrote: ‘I still don’t understand why that wasn’t allowed, very soft English refs look like a joke again’.

Still, Oliver did receive some support, with some users saying he made the right decision by disallowing the goal.

One user wrote: ‘Good decision if I’m honest, Kimmich sees the Danish player and steps into him… you can’t do that.’

Another user stated that Kimmich deserved to be punished. They wrote: ‘Yes that’s a foul for me, Kimmich only has eyes for Skov Olsen there, couldn’t wait to foul him!’.

Additionally, another user wrote, “Definitive foul from Kimmich. You can’t choose like that.”

Another user added that it was a “clear violation.” They wrote: ‘Kimmich looked after the defender before blocking him after Schlotterbeck. Clear violation.’
