England’s Harry Brook and Tammy Beaumont named Professional Cricketers’ Association Players of the Year
Harry Brook and Tammy Beaumont were named Professional Cricketers’ Association Players of the Year, while James Rew and Mahika Gaur scooped the Young Player of the Year awards.
Brook, a late addition to England’s World Cup squad in place of Jason Roy, picked up the men’s prize after scoring 2,149 runs across all formats last year, cementing himself in the mid-table in the Test game.
The 24-year-old, who won the Young Player of the Year in both 2021 and 2022, has scored more than 1,000 runs in 12 Tests, including four hundreds, and hit a century from 41 balls in The Hundred for Northern Superchargers this summer.
Brook said: “I didn’t expect to win this award if I’m honest. The past twelve months have been a dream come true and this is a huge honor. Watching the high-profile names on this trophy and standing next to them is incredible.
“It’s a dream to have done what I’ve done in international cricket over the last 12 months and hopefully it will continue. I can’t wait to be part of the World Cup now, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Beaumont was named Women’s Player of the Year after another successful summer, which included a double century against Australia in the one-off Women’s Ashes Test and then the first century by a female player in The Hundred.
The opener said: “I am very grateful that my colleagues voted for me and I think that is what makes the PCA Awards so special because it is voted on by your teammates and the opposition.
“Going forward, I just want to be the best I can and contribute in a positive way to every team I play on.”
Somerset wicketkeeper-batsman Rew, 19, becomes the first teenager to win the Men’s Young Player of the Year since James Taylor in 2009 after amassing more than 1,000 runs for Somerset in the LV= Insurance County Championship.
Fast bowler Gaur, 17, claimed 3-26 on her one-day international debut in England against Sri Lanka in September after picking up one scalp on her T20 international bow against the same opposition.
