Brimming with opulence and hailed as a floating palace, it was named HMS WAG for hosting the families of footballers during the World Cup.
But it seems the luxury liner may not have been comfortable enough for the pampered wives and girlfriends of the England team, who jumped ship.
After 10 nights on board, the families of soccer stars have moved into sumptuous villas with private pools on the mainland or five-star hotels.
In a vote of confidence in the Three Lions, the family of star Harry Maguire appears to have favored a hotel within walking distance of the Lusail Stadium, where the World Cup final will take place.
WAGs from England and family members were staying on this £1 billion cruise ship but have now moved into luxury villas and hotels.
Aine May Kennedy is dating England star Conor Gallagher. Ms Kennedy, 23, joined other WAGs in Qatar after having problems with her passport.
The fabulous Waldorf Astoria boasts of being “an oasis of luxury on the Arabian Gulf” with a private beach, spa and eight world-class restaurants.
Hopefully, it’s also a handy 10-minute drive to the 89,000-seat main stadium shaped like a golden Arabian lantern where the tournament winners will hoist the trophy on December 18.
England’s WAGs were enjoying new, more luxurious accommodation on land yesterday after disembarking the billion-pound cruise ship MSC World Europe docked at the port of Doha, where they have stayed since arriving in Qatar on November 20.
It has been described as the most amazing cruise ship ever built, with 33 restaurants and bars on board, beauty salons, boutiques, 14 ocean-view Jacuzzis, and an incredible 11-story indoor slide called The Venom Drop.
The WAGs are said to have racked up a £20,000 bar tab in a raucous karaoke session the night England beat Iran 6-2.
Leicester City footballer James Maddison and his model girlfriend Alexa Kennedy (pictured left) are believed to have been dating for over two years, while Aine May Kennedy and Conor Gallagher have been together for almost four years (in the photo on the right)
The Waldorf Astoria Lusail Hotel, Doha, where some of the WAGs have moved. The resort has a private beach, a spa, and eight top-notch restaurants
But with the group sharing the ship with 6,000 other passengers and needing to rent additional cabins to stow their extensive wardrobes, it seems some of them have grown tired of cruise life.
In a video posted online, Welsh porter Danny Ward’s partner Rebecca Naylor hinted at regret among the Welsh WAGs left behind on the liner when she filmed a luxury hotel before holding her camera close to the cruise ship across the water and deliberately write: ‘When I should have done the 10 days here and not there’.
Yesterday, a video on social media shared by English defender Conor Coady’s wife Amie, 29, showed off a spectacular marble beachside villa.
English star Conor Coady’s wife, Amie, enjoyed a break from the action as she shared a trip of snapshots from her trip to the beach during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The mother-of-three showed the children enjoying the pool and dancing on a patio while staff served with refreshments including a bottle in an ice bucket.
She and her husband also posed for a romantic photo together at the village, which is 50 miles from Doha.
Kennedy Alexa, midfielder James Maddison’s model couple, also shared pictures of a villa and a photo of them kissing by the sea with the caption: “Quality time with you.”
Others, including Jack Grealish’s partner Sasha Attwood, 27, Jordan Pickford’s wife Megan, 26, Kyle Walker’s model wife Annie Kilner, 30, and Luke Shaw’s girlfriend Anouska Santos, out of 30, they also moved to land-based accommodation.
All the players were granted family time on Wednesday, with midfielder Declan Rice yesterday hailing the ‘relaxed day’ with his partner Lauren Fryer and their son Leo, saying: ‘I have my little newborn here with me so I was able to spend the day with him. We haven’t seen our families in all this time, so when we see them it’s really special.’
A Football Association source confirmed that the WAGs had jumped ship, but said that had always been the plan after the group stage of the tournament.
England are now in the knockout stage, facing African champions Senegal on Sunday.
