The U21 team of England celebrated only a muted party on Saturday evening after winning the European Championship.

Lee Carsley’s side dramatically won the tournament 1-0 after a Cole Palmer free kick hit Curtis Jones and went into the back of the net in the second half.

Spain conceded a late penalty after Chelsea’s Levi Colwill tripped Abel Ruiz in the box, but Burnley-bound James Trafford saved the penalty and rebound to ensure England clinched the trophy for the first time since 1984.

Wild celebrations ensued as the team ran onto the field at the full whistle before cheering for the trophy.

However, back at the hotel, the festivities were quiet as the team prepared to head back to their clubs for preparation for the new season.

Most teams are now training again and international players have been given extra time off after the end-of-season games.

England’s U21 players will get a short break before returning to their clubs to prepare for the new season, which starts in about a month.

England hero Trafford is a player fans will be watching closely as he approaches a £19 million move to newly promoted Burnley.
