England take charge of second Test against West Indies after opening up 207-run lead as Harry Brook reaches half century in unbroken partnership with Joe Root on day three

England took a commanding 207-run lead over West Indies to take control of the second Test match on day three at Trent Bridge.

Harry Brook reached a superb half-century in an unbroken partnership with Joe Root to calm the hosts after the quick dismissals of Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett.

England, firmly in the box seat, closed with 248-3 at the stumps.

But despite ending the day as winners, they lost the lead in a chaotic morning session when Joshua da Silva and Shamar Joseph put on 71 for the West Indians’ final wicket after the tourists had been reduced to 386-9.

When both finally fell, West Indies had reached 457.

However, the deficit of 41 was overcome after Duckett scored 76 and Pope 51. Later Brook went to 71* and Root to 37*, making England the favourites.
