England legend Jimmy Anderson eyes SHOCK T20 comeback just four months after retiring from international cricket

Jimmy Anderson has declared his candidacy for the Indian Premier League squad four months after retiring from international cricket.

Anderson, 42, has never played in the IPL but will take part in the league’s mega auction later this month for a base price of £114,000.

England’s most prolific bowler of all time hasn’t played Twenty20 cricket for a decade, but in the aftermath of his final Test appearance against Sri Lanka in June he said he wanted to try his hand at the franchise circuit before hanging up his boots.

None of England’s leading white-ball cricketers were retained by their franchises before 2025, i.e. Jos Buttler, named MVP during a seven spell with Rajasthan two years ago, and Sam Curran, a record £1.85m signing by Punjab in late 2025. 2022 will have to compete alongside Anderson and 49 other English hopefuls.

England Test captain Ben Stokes hasn’t put his name in the mix, but fellow 2019 World Cup star Jofra Archer is following his comeback from back and elbow injuries.

Since retiring last summer, Anderson has led a hugely exciting group of English speedsters. He told Mail Sport: “I really enjoyed still being with the group,” he said.

‘I found the transition relatively easy because probably for the last ten years my job has been to be a senior bowler in the team and help the other boys by leading the attack on the field and also try to help new boys to settle down. .

‘It’s always nice to win Test matches and I still get a lot of satisfaction from being part of that.’
