England first-choice goalkeeper Jordan Pickford gained further admiration among Everton supporters with on-pitch heroics against Liverpool on Wednesday, but left many confused by one response off the pitch.
Pickford kept a clean sheet as Sean Dyche’s 16th side increased their bid against relegation with a 2-0 win over their bitter rivals in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
The goalkeeper featured on the Toffees’ matchday program and answered a few questions in their ‘Matchday Takeover’ section.
However, it was one answer that left eagle-eyed fans confused.
When asked what is the one rule change he would make in football, the England shot-stopper replied: ‘Cancel the fouls and let’s get on with it.’

With the image shared by the Football walk on X, formerly Twitter, it led to some ironic responses.
‘The referee must have read that before the match. Everton got in Liverpool’s faces, put it on, fair play to them.. and yet Liverpool 16 fouls to Everton’s 3?’, one user replied.
“The win is fully deserved, though, so let’s not misinterpret this if I suggest otherwise.”
However, two other users were less playful with their words.
‘A bit rich of him, considering he throws a tantrum every time an opponent comes within a country mile of him at corners!’ said a bill.
Another wrote: ‘Cries like a baby when being touched up at the corners by the little weasel.’
Since Monday’s 6-0 defeat to Chelsea, Everton have responded emphatically with home wins over Nottingham Forest and Liverpool (both 2-0).
Speaking after Saturday’s win over Forest, Pickford said evertontv: ‘We will keep fighting, keep fighting, do what we do and give everything.
‘The collective performance of the team is greater than any individual performance. We must give 100 percent to ensure that we help each other to keep fighting and achieving results.
“We keep giving ourselves difficult seasons, but we keep fighting, keep going and we won’t stop.”
Pickford will hope this continues on Saturday when they host Brentford in the 5.30pm kick-off.
