England fans react to BIZARRE moment the BBC cut to Spanish TV part-way through Gareth Southgate’s post-match interview after the Three Lions’ heartbreaking final defeat

England fans were left stunned by the bizarre moment when the BBC’s post-match interview with Gareth Southgate was interrupted to allow Spanish television to broadcast.

The England manager spoke to the announcer after watching his team lose yet another European Championship final, with Mikel Oyarzabal scoring the winning goal in the 86th minute to hand the trophy to Spain for a record fourth time.

Fans eager to hear Southgate’s thoughts on the match were left stunned when the footage interrupted his response.

English fans were quick to react to the mistake on social media, with many making jokes about it, while others vaguely linked it to the outcome of the final.

‘Southgate interview begins, coverage switches to Spanish language interview… wtf BBC?’ wrote one English supporter on X.

Another said: ‘Not the BBC cutting Southgate’s interview off after ONE SENTENCE. I’m dying.’ A third commented: ‘The BBC broadcast is in breach, they cut Southgate off halfway through the apology.’

‘Disgraceful reporting of BBC interview with Southgate. He was cut off halfway through the interview. Absolute nonsense,’ wrote another.

“Spanish TV even steals the English feed,” one user joked on X. In a similar vein, a fan noted: “The fact that the BBC cuts from the Southgate interview to the Morata interview is absolutely hilarious.”

Luis de le Fuente’s team were the better team in Berlin and were better in the early stages until England came back into the game at the end of the first period.

Spain were rewarded almost immediately after the break when Nico Williams, running free, emerged at the far post and calmly fired past Jordan Pickford.

The Three Lions weathered an onslaught before equalising in the 73rd minute with Cole Palmer’s pinpoint finish into the corner. But Spain were ultimately victorious, with Oyarzabal claiming the match.

Eventually, footage of the interview with the England manager was broadcast, in which he admitted that Spain were the best team of the tournament. He refused to confirm whether he would remain as manager of the Three Lions.

“I think they were the best team in the tournament,” he told the BBC. “We didn’t keep the ball well enough but we were there until the end. I’m devastated for everyone, the players have been incredible, I’m so proud.

‘We had a bit of momentum, big chance to equalize at the end, but I’m not sure we did enough.

‘Against Spain you have to keep the ball when you win it back. Defensively we were fine in the first half, but that costs you your legs.

‘There’s no way around it, we’ve had a lot of problems. We’ve been able to address most of them, but we’ve fallen short.

“The payers deserve a lot of credit for getting us so close to the solution.

‘I’m proud of the way they fought, represented the shirt with pride, never defeated until five minutes into the last game. We didn’t keep the ball well enough, they had more control and that made the difference.

‘England are in a really good position in terms of the experience they have now and the age of the squad. This squad will be there for the next World Cup. There is a lot to look forward to, but that is no consolation.’

The wait for a major tournament continues for the country, with Sunday’s defeat making England the first team to lose two consecutive European Championship finals.
