Commenting on his side’s disappointing Euro 2024 exit, Scotland coach Clarke said: ‘You always get caught when you open up like that.

‘We did create some chances. One consequence of being under pressure to win is that you might take some of those opportunities.

‘Sometimes you need the football gods by your side; they weren’t on our side tonight. It’s a cruel game. We all suffer the same.’
