An England fan looking worse for the wear has shared bizarre footage reportedly waking up in the Veltins Arena after England’s win over Serbia.

The shivering supporter was still in the FC Schalke 04 stadium on Monday morning and shared images of him in the upper stands of the empty ground.

England survived the temporary threat of a comeback from Serbia in the opening match of Euro 2024 as Jude Bellingham’s brilliant first-half header gave Gareth Southgate a crucial victory.

The post has since gone viral, with fans amazed at how the individual ended up stranded in the ground given the enhanced safety measures put in place around the competition.

As he spun around an empty stadium, the England fan said to the camera: ‘I just woke up. It’s four o’clock in the morning. I’m shaking in the Schalke ground.’

Temperatures dropped to around 14 degrees Celsius in the early hours of Monday morning, with the fan complaining of the cold he experienced while dressed in a hoodie.

The video footage shows a bare stadium with a capacity of 62,000 people, without stewards or staff, but the floodlights have remained.

Despite the post being viewed thousands of times on social media platforms, some supporters have questioned the authenticity of the post.

One fan wondered why he hadn’t been found during the routine search at the end of the match, commenting on X: “How did security not find him?”
