Germany’s Joshua Kimmich has criticized England’s tactics after the 3-3 thriller between the two sides at Wembley.

The Bayern Munich defender struck in the way Gareth Southgate set up his side and was also frustrated with the way his team performed after leading 2-0 on Monday night.

Germany took the lead when Ilkay Gundogan opened the score from the spot and Kai Havertz doubled the visitors advantage with a curling attempt with only 23 minutes left on the clock.

However, England turned the game upside down and took a 3-2 lead before a mistake by Nick Pope enabled Germany to save a draw.

Kimmich thinks England should never have been in that position.

“We had the game under control and were leading 2-0,” said the 27-year-old.

“After the 2-0 we became too passive and we were not brave enough against the ball.”

Gareth Southgate’s substitutions inspired England’s comeback in the second half

Following Gareth Southgate’s introductions to Bukayo Saka and Mason Mount, England took control of the game when they scored three goals in just 12 minutes.

But Kimmich claimed the Three Lions didn’t deserve a point.

“England just played in the counter-attack… it’s inexplicable really because England didn’t really want to play,” he said.

“That shouldn’t happen in the second half, because we gave the game away completely.”

Just like England, Germany now goes to Qatar without a win from this international break. Germany is in Group E at the World Cup, along with Spain, Japan and Costa Rica.
