Ollie Robinson caused another Ashes injury yesterday when he left the field during Sussex’s LV= County Championship match against Glamorgan at Hove with a sore left ankle.
The 29-year-old did not return for the final two sessions after being sent out on an eight past morning spell and will undergo a scan on Monday.
“We knew it hurt on Friday. We got one spell from him this morning and he did his very best. It was a long spell and he got stuck in it. He knew it would be just one spell. And then he was off for the day,” said Sussex coach Paul Farbrace.
“It was precautionary. There was no point in making it worse. It’s more walking than running in. He ran down the slope. He did well. It is a joint decision between the Sussex medical team and the England medical team. As much as we’d love to see him bowl and take wickets, it’s not fair of him to make the injury worse. So last night and this morning we had a good conversation again.’
Unusually, Robinson did not bowl at the start of the third day. Instead, home captain Cheteshwar Pujara introduced his senior sailor on the attack after half an hour of play, despite Marnus Labuschagne being in the fold.

Earlier in the match, Robinson appeared to deliver a different kind of pre-Ashes blow four weeks before the first Test at Edgbaston when he pinned Labuschagne lbw with the first ball he bowled at him as Glamorgan was dismissed for 123 for the first time .
He then sent a test spell to the world’s number one Test batsman in Friday night’s session, claiming a fifth Glamorgan victim of the match.

Anderson, 40, refused to take any chances when he felt a groin hernia in the draw against Somerset, and retired from the action after returning the figures of 14-7-16-2 in the first innings at Emirates Old Trafford.
He is unlikely to be risked against Ireland as a five-game series against the Australians begins just two weeks later.
But the chances of Chris Woakes and Mark Wood starring have arguably increased regardless of the results of Robinson’s scan, as they have to be exposed for four days and he’s now bound to be wrapped in cotton wool.
