Energy drink recalled due to mushroom scare.

A flavored energy drink sold across Australia is being urgently recalled over concerns it has been potentially contaminated with a microbial fungus.

Performance Inspired Cranberry Lemonade Flavor with Protein Water Ready 2 Go and Fruit Punch Pow Time Flavor with Energy Water Go Time, both of which come in 500ml bottles, are subject to recall notice.

Energy Water includes those with a best before date up to and including December 26th, while the affected protein water covers the period up to and including December 28th.

Brand Solutions Australia is conducting a recall of Performance Inspired Protein Water Ready 2 Go Lemonade Blueberry Flavor 500 mL and Performance Inspired Energy Water Go Time Fruit Punch Pow Flavor 500 mL

“The recall is due to microbial contamination (Aureobasidium melanogenum),” said the recall notice from Food Standards Australia New Zealand, issued on Wednesday.

‘Food products contaminated with Aureobasidium melanogenum can cause illness if consumed.’

The drinks are sold in Chemist Warehouse stores nationally.

Anyone with an affected product should not consume it, and instead return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Aureobasidium melanogenum is a common, dark-colored, yeast-like fungus commonly found in freshwater.

The recalled drinks, which could be contaminated with microbial fungi, were sold at Chemist Warehouse stores around Australia.

Anyone who has consumed one of the potentially contaminated drinks and is concerned about their health is advised to seek medical advice.
