An incident that, for a brief moment, looked like it could have been one of horror turned into a scene of endearment in Little League baseball Tuesday.

In the Southwest Region Championship, Pearland were competing against Tulsa when Kaiden Shelton of the Texas team threw a pitch that hit Tulsa’s Isaiah Jarvis on the ear flap of his helmet, around the temple.

Jarvis went down, his helmet coming off but quickly enough was able to get to his feet and make it to first base.

It was there that Jarvis noticed his opponent, Shelton, was shaken up himself after accidentally striking him on the head with the ball and called for a time out.

He headed towards the mound to comfort his rival, giving him a hug and offering up some words of encouragement.

‘Hey, you’re doing just great,’ Jarvis said, with the crowd applauding the show of sportsmanship unfolding in front of them.

The rest of the Pearland infield then followed Shelton’s example and came in to the mound to check on their teammate.

Pearland ended up recording a 9-4 triumph which has confirmed its place in the Little League World Series.

The series begins August 17 and runs to August 28.
